Avenue Christian Academy (WACA) is a school committed to the
idea that children learn best when their physical needs are
met and they feel psychologically safe and secure. The program
exposes children to a variety of skills and activities in
a warm and nurturing environment, thereby providing a foundation
for learning. The concept that children learn through social
interaction with other adults and children, through play,
and through discovery and exploration is central to the teaching
philosophy of the Academy. The students are allowed to work
at their own pace utilizing learning centers as a means to
facilitate academic growth individually and in small groups.
It is the mission of Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy to create a lifelong commitment to God’s principles, in order for students to live, love and learn, so that a legacy is left for all who follow.
The major goal is for children to acquire skills in all of the core subjects and a love for God through a Christian-based program. “The A Beka Curriculum,” which constitutes the primary instructional material for the academic program, provides the necessary skills all students need to be successful for life. However, in order to address all learner styles, other teaching materials that are carefully selected, developmentally appropriate and sufficiently structured for student success will be utilized.
Teachers provide a learner-centered, well organized classroom where work ethics and proper conduct are the acceptable standard. As such, students find it easier to concentrate on the work and the development of good character traits occurs naturally. Other non--academic goals include student participation in church and community projects. Additionally, enrichment programs are offered which include chapel, fine arts, computer lab, foreign language, physical education, as well as after school care.
Wheeler Avenue Christian Academy accept children from 6 weeks - 1st grade. We are seeking students who want to learn and who will grow in God through the use of a Christian Curriculum.
